Asher's Recipe for the Perfect Hot Toddy

Asher's Recipe for the Perfect Hot Toddy

Asher shares his top-secret, over-the-years-perfected, signature hot toddy recipe.

Whether enjoying the flickering of the Hannukah candles or the twinkling of the Christmas tree ornaments by the light of the fireplace, the holidays aren't complete without a complimentary mug of something warm and cozy...and boozey. Asher's go-to is a Hot Toddy!
"Introduced at a young age to this drink (it was rubbed on my gums to sooth me when teething, or I was given a small sip when I had a cold to help me decongest and sleep off the sickness), you could say I've been tweaking and refining this recipe for quite some time," says Asher.
"In the spirit of the holidays, I'm sharing this treat and remedy. May you have a sweet and savory happy holiday and new year. Cheers!"
In a glass or ceramic mug add:
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2oz lemon juice
  • 2oz whiskey (or bourbon)
Bring a pot of hot water to a boil and pour it into a teapot with built-in strainer*.  In the strainer add:
  • 1 lemon-ginger or Lipton tea bag
  • 1 lemon wedge with 5 cloves placed into the rind
  • 1 pinch of red pepper flakes, optional (adds a nice kick)
Let steep for 3 minutes, then pour the tea into your mug, filling it up the rest of the way (adding about 5-7 oz of tea).
*If you don't have a teapot with built-in strainer you can steep everything in the teapot and then pour it through a bar strainer to catch the pepper flakes, lemon wedge, and cloves.
Enjoy!
