About the Position:

The Studio Assistant works closely with our Operations Manager and Lighting Specialist to assist with all aspects of lighting production and manufacturing, as well as general day-to-day studio tasks. Our lighting products are made to order in our studio in Rumford, RI, and the Studio Assistant will have a hands-on role throughout the process of production and order fulfillment. We work primarily with local vendors and utilize a variety of manufacturing processes such as glass blowing, woodturning, casting, plating, machining, and metal spinning. The Studio Assistant will get to know our custom parts, manufacturers, and understand their function in our production pieces. The Assistant will become a vital member of the Studio Dunn team.

 

Job Description:

Day to day tasks include shipping and receiving products and part inventory, preparing parts for manufacturing processes, part related inventory, and quality control inspections. This position will also involve production related tasks with wiring and assembly of our lighting fixtures, and may include some light metalwork and woodworking tasks. This person will also help develop production processes and studio improvements as needed. The Studio Assistant will also assist with running regular errands, and help with general studio upkeep and maintenance.

Applicants must be comfortable working on their feet in a workshop/studio environment and able to lift 50 pounds. Applicants must have a valid drivers license, ideally with a reliable personal vehicle. Applicants must also be authorized to work in the U.S.

This position will be 15-20 hours to start, with the opportunity for additional work to meet production needs. Scheduling is flexible and compensation is based on experience and Studio Dunn offers part-time benefits of dental and vision insurance as well as a continuing education fund. The Studio Assistant position has the opportunity to grow to a 30-35 hour work week in the future.

 

Preferred Qualifications

While Studio Dunn will provide training for all relevant job duties for this entry level position, the ideal candidate will take pride in their work and have a strong interest in production and manufacturing in a design-focused company. This person should enjoy working with his or her hands and have some experience or comfort with using power tools. They must be able to take direction, and switch gears quickly to meet the demands of production. Applicants should have an aptitude for learning new material skill-sets, be organized, detail oriented, and self motivated.
